Lose unwanted chin fat without surgery
A “double chin,” or submental fullness, is an inherited trait that can be difficult to address through diet and exercise. Liposuction can help, but comes with incisions and several days of downtime. Now you have a non-surgical option to lose that double chin—Kybella!
Kybella™ is an injectable medication that is FDA-approved to reduce excess fat under the chin. With just a few Kybella treatments in Boston, you can enjoy a more youthful, refined neckline without any downtime at all.
How Kybella works
Kybella contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the body that helps break down fat. When Kybella’s deoxycholic acid solution is injected directly into the subcutaneous fat beneath the chin, it causes the fat cell walls to break down and dissolve. Over several weeks following treatment, your body metabolizes the affected fat cells, reducing the total amount of fat under the chin. Highlights of Kybella include:
- Safe, non-surgical chin fat reduction with no scars or no downtime
- Gradual, natural improvements in chin and neck appearance
- Suitable for addressing small or moderate fat deposits beneath the chin
- A series of 2 to 4 treatments achieves long-lasting results
Because Kybella breaks down individual fat cells in small groups, you will notice a gradual reduction in submental fullness over the course of several treatments. The results are long-lasting—as long as you maintain a stable weight, you will enjoy a slimmer, more refined neckline for many years.

What to expect with Kybella injections in Boston
Kybella injections are performed either by our board-certified physician assistant Aliza Holstein, MS, PA-C, female plastic surgeon Dr. Alannah Phelan or board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Fouad Samaha. At your consultation, your provider will discuss your goals with you and evaluate the skin and fat around your chin and neck.
To prepare you for treatment, your provider will clean the area and apply a topical anesthetic. Each Kybella treatment involves several injections in various locations beneath the chin. Immediately following treatment, your chin and neck may feel tender or numb. Mild swelling, bruising, redness, and tingling are possible; these effects typically subside within 1 to 2 weeks after treatment.
During your consultation, we will discuss with you the number of treatments you may need to achieve your desired level of fat reduction. Most patients require a minimum of 3 Kybella treatments.
