What is Kysse made of?
Like our other Restylane dermal fillers, Kysse is a hyaluronic acid-based, clear gel injectable product. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring carbohydrate found in the human body that helps provide structure, hydration, and elasticity to our tissues.
The synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) in Kysse is crosslinked with BDDE (1,4-Butanediol diglycidyl), which helps form a network of HA that helps the product last longer in the body. Kysse also contains a small amount of lidocaine—a commonly used anesthetic—to help keep you comfortable during treatment.
Per the manufacturer of Kysse, it is the first HA filler specifically developed for use in the lips using XpresHAn Technology™—a trademarked name for the special Kysse formulation that helps it last for up to a year, remain soft and supple feeling, and provide natural-looking results. By altering the way HA binds inside the skin, Kysse more fully integrates into the area where it’s injected, so it stretches when you talk or smile (or kiss!).
Is hyaluronic acid safe?
Yes! Synthesized hyaluronic acid has become a staple ingredient across the beauty industry over the last few years and can be found in a number of topical anti-aging products and medical-grade skin treatments. Because hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body, it is considered safe for all skin types with little risk of adverse reaction.
That being said, the safety of the product is only one part of the equation—and it’s crucial to work with an experienced injectables provider who has been properly trained in the safe, effective use of hyaluronic acid fillers to ensure safe treatment and consistent result.
How does Kysse work?
When strategically injected into specific areas in and around the lips with an ultrafine needle, the clear Kysse gel provides instantaneous “plumping” of the targeted tissues. The product sits just under the skin, filling out the natural contours of your lips while improving elasticity and moisture for a smooth look.
Over time, your body will naturally and safely absorb and metabolize the product, and you’ll notice your results subtly diminishing.
What does Kysse treat?
Kysse is approved by the FDA to add temporary fullness to the lips, improving volume, shape, and definition. It can also be used to smooth lines around the upper lip (“perioral lines”) to address signs of aging.
How long does Kysse last?
In studies, Kysse was shown to last up to a year for most patients. In fact, 78% of test subjects reported an improvement in the appearance of their lips 12 months after treatment.
When it comes to scheduling your maintenance treatment, this decision should be made between you and your provider. Your personal aesthetic preference, how much product was originally injected, and how your individual body metabolized the product can all impact how long your results last and how satisfied you are over time.
Do lip injections hurt?
Any injection will come with some discomfort—and promises otherwise should be taken with a grain of salt. That being said, the inclusion of lidocaine in Kysse helps take the edge off any pain, and the tiny needle used for injection is minimally invasive. Most of our patients report a slight twinge or pinch that is totally manageable. If you personally have a low threshold for pain, we can discuss additional numbing options to ensure your comfort.
After treatment, it’s normal to experience some tenderness and swelling around the injection sites, but these side effects are typically mild and short-lived.
How much does Kysse cost?
At our Boston plastic surgery practice, Kysse costs a bit more than our other lip fillers due to the new formulation and advanced technology. Your final price will depend on how much product is needed to provide your desired results. We’re happy to talk over all of your options in your consultation.
